As design partner for DLR and Harbin Institute of Technology, we translated its highly integrated technology into a compact, functional and approachable form—giving the robotic hand a distinctive, human-centred identity.
Our design approach focused on giving the complex technology a protective yet approachable identity. Inspired by human anatomy, subtle references to tendons, lifelines and fingernails create a natural appearance—reducing barriers and building trust in human-centred applications.
The final design unites technical precision with a distinctly human character. Its innovative approach was recognised with the iF Design Award 2007—confirming that advanced robotics can be both highly functional and intuitively approachable.
